International Stage Hypnotist Ronnie Baras to Specialize in After Prom Parties

One day after returning home to Maryland from performances in Canada, stage hypnotist Ronnie Baras turned to his wife and said, “I’m scared to look in the paper tomorrow.  Tonight there are several proms and once again there are going to be terrible accidents as a result of too much drinking.”  But in the last few years, “After Prom” parties have become popular, where kids are ‘locked in’ a building during the night for a party where no alcohol is served.  “One day it hit me.  What better way could there be to have teens look forward to the after prom party than to provide a hilarious comedy show – specifically a comedy hypnosis show!”

With thousands of shows under his belt, Ronnie Baras has decided to specialize in After Prom Parties.  “It may be a little difficult (performing after midnight, night after night), but I feel like I’m saving lives.”

How much does the show cost?  “I hate it when that’s the first question that’s asked,” says Ronnie.  “First of all, if you need to undergo a medical procedure, do you search the internet and ask each surgeon what they would charge?  No!  You want someone with tons of experience and tons of education.  I’m not saying that I’m a doctor, but I can certainly say that one should be careful when hiring a hypnotist, since it’s largely an unregulated field.  An after prom committee should hire someone that has spent years training in this field.  They should strongly consider hiring a certified hypnotherapist with thousands of shows under their belt.  And the hypnotist should carry insurance.  I’ve never had a problem.  But I feel a responsibility to protect everyone – my hypnotized subjects as well as the venues that hire me.  With the right hypnotist, hypnosis is safe, clean fun.  I’m fortunate - over ten years of performing experience and several years of training and continuing education allow me to perform without getting nervous.  And I never get tired of doing shows.  At this point, I could be teaching hypnosis courses if my time permitted.”  So how much does the show cost? “Let me answer it this way”, answers Baras.  “Several factors go into my pricing -  length of show, travel costs, whether I provide my sound system, whether I provide a hypnotism show, a mentalism show, or a combination of the two, whether I need to customize the show to fit a theme … all of these things are taken into consideration.  But the bottom line is this – I can often work within the budget that is offered to me.  It’s as if you are hoping to hire a top surgeon … and are then surprised to find out you can actually afford it!”

There are other aspects that make Ronnie Baras’s show unique.  He does a clean show.  “I have to work a little harder, but I strive for an atmosphere where teens and adult chaperones can thoroughly enjoy themselves and each other’s company without being embarrassed.”  And Baras always ends his shows with suggestions to his hypnotized subjects for increased self esteem and happiness.  “I get emails even years later from people that tell me that an evening with me changed their lives forever in a positive way.”  Does Baras have any complaints?  “None, except that I wish that I could be at more than one place at a time.  I feel like I am really making a difference in people’s lives.  But inevitably if I have a booking, that’s it – I have to turn down everyone else that wants me for that same date and time.

What skits will Baras do at an After Prom party?  “I don’t like to plan my shows in advance”, says Baras.  “That way, I can stay fresh and enjoy the show as much as the audience.”  From the audience perspective, he performs seamlessly and energetically and he obviously enjoys what he does.  “Perhaps I’ll have people believe that I am Barack Obama.  People get pretty excited to meet the President!”  He often likes to turn people into their favorite celebrity or have people believe they are contestants or judges on the TV Show ‘American Idol’.   He explains that he has hundreds of skits to choose from and he uses a lot of audience involvement.

It’s hard to get Baras to be serious.  When asked what he considers to be the most powerful result of hypnosis that he’s ever seen, he answers, “My wife and teenage daughters listen to me, thanks to hypnosis”.
